Push in, pull down!
I love these things - they're so tempting. Almost daring me to tug on them. This one even uses braille - isn't that awesome?!
Hard Pressed Cafe in the Portside Tower
Between coffees
I took this photo at Hard Pressed Cafe in Cape Town. My short review can be found over hither.
If you believe there’s nothing up my sleeve…
The chairs at Hard Pressed Cafe in Cape Town are decorated with vinyl album covers and lyrics. Pretty awesome idea hey?
FWIW, their coffee was pretty good and reasonably well priced - and we enjoyed the salmon and poached egg breakfast tremendously. They have many '90s vinyls for sale, although many of the used ones are somewhat scratched and the new ones seem overpriced at just under R500.
Mostly naughty
He looks innocent - but, his name is William and let me assure you, his mostly naughty. He bites his aunt's ears after pretending to groom her. He hides from us when it's time to come inside; then talks back at us when we scold him. Occasionally he catches birds, lizards, and even moles. Most nights he purrs far too loudly while I'm trying to fall asleep, and then wakes up too early and demands attention. It's hard being a parent.
Reserved @ Hudsons
It's known as "The Burger Joint", but here's the secret - they actually sell pretty darn fantastic pizza. And waffles. And beer. And did I mention waffles?! When visiting Cape Town, pop in at Hudsons on Somerset Road in Green Point. The staff are great, the food is great, the atmosphere is great.
Be sure to make a reservation if you intend going between 18h00 and 21h00 most nights - it's super popular and you're unlikely to get a table otherwise.

I doubt "Winking at you" was the title of this piece by Schalk van der Merwe... call it poetic licence on my part. :)

Kelly John Gough at work @artmode
In my previous post I showed you a few postcards of Kelly John Gough's works. Here's the man himself at work - it was quite inspiring to watch.
Painting with oil, by Kelly John Gough @artmode
I'll post one or two more of his works, but in the meantime, don't you think these postcards are a really neat idea? It seems like a really cool idea to snail-mail portrait prints made by a local artist. Check out more of Kelly John Gough's work his website over here.
Sea bamboo sculptures by Janko de Beer
I'm not sure how clear it is from the photo, but this sea bamboo sculpture is of a running dog - isn't it incredible?! Take a look at more of his work over here.
Sculpting by Gabrielle Alberts @Artmode
I took this photo at the Artmode event at Youngblood-Africa's gallery in Cape Town. I watched Gabrielle for some time while she worked on this miniture sculpture - it's incredible how delicate she can be while handling the pieces; I'd have broken them several times over. :) Take a look at this interview with her - it's in Afrikaans, so if you don't understand the language... :)
Music @Artmode
Check out my post about Artmode at Youngblood-Africa's gallery over here.
Artmode at the Youngblood Gallery
I went along to the Artmode "Holistic Expression of Integrated Arts" event on Thursday - it was fantastic. If you ever see the flyers, or catch wind of it on Social media, make a plan to go along - you're unlikely to regret it.
The evening was hosted at Youngblood-Africa's three-story gallery on 70-72 Bree Street in Cape Town, and brought together performing artists, sculptors, and painters and other artists to produce an ensemble of creative people who entertained us over glasses, many glasses, of wine. :)
I'll post a few more photos of the works that were on display - so, keep an eye out for those and remember, as I said, if you catch wind of Artmode II, be sure to get a ticket. And if that doesn't happen soon enough - take some time to visit Youngblood - you'll be glad you did.
