The hills and mountains of Constantia
Table Mountain National Park
Purple flowers in the wild
In our gardens they're weeds, in our fields they're flowers. Perhaps it's because on their own these plant's aren't tremendously special, but in large fields - they're pretty darn magnificent.
Snow on our mountains
It's recently been really cold in Cape Town - and here's the evidence. Over the past couple of weekends dozens - nay - hundreds of families have made their way though to Ceres and other locations to play in the Matroosberg mountain snow. Take a look at the pictures on the Matroosberg website, and remember, this is Africa folks!
A Jack Daniel’s motorbike
Either this bike belongs to an employee of the local Jack Daniel's distributors, or a seriously-committed fan. :)

Let’s go surfin’ now
It's probably a long time since you've heard that song, right? :)

Cycling season is back
It seems like cycling season is back. Remember to keep a 1 meter gap between your car and the cyclists you pass - and perhaps give a warning blip on your hooter if you feel they stray too far towards the middle of the road. :)
Sea-sand succulents
A table top mountain
It would be super-weird if we one day awoke to a flat landscape, without the iconic Table Mountain to greet us. The mountain's like a huge compass that Capetonians, and visitors I guess, use to orientate themselves.
And this get's me thinking - I wonder if the reason that traffic's a complete disaster in cloudy-rainy weather isn't perhaps because we lose sight of the mountain? ;)
A distant ocean
This photo was taken in the direction of Table View, from the top of the Contermanskloof road, outside Durbanville. Way in the distance, where the land meets the sky, that's the ocean and Table Bay.
Bees, bees, and Red Bull
I, for some inexplicable reason, find the fact that in English the word "bees" refers to a group of flying-stinging pollen-loving insects, while in Afrikaans the word "bees" refers to cattle. Not specifically Red Bull's flying bulls - but that is an interesting happenstance, don't you think? :)
Hills of green
Spring flowers
I found this evidence that Spring has arrived on the Contermanskloof road, in the Durbanville wine district. Pretty, hey?

Inside Mabu
Mabu Vinyl has been around forever, and the number of interesting LPs and wall posters is simply awesome. It's definitely worthwhile visiting the store in Rheede Street - even if you're not into actually buying LPs. :)
Boxed LPs
Isn't it interesting that LPs, which pre-dated cassette tapes and compact disks will probably outlast them both? Peter Goldmark, were he alive today, would have good reason to be proud of the part he played in developing the long-playing record. :)

Good food – A South African tradition
Just in case you're not sure what a boerie roll is - the word boerie is an abbreviation of the Afrikaans word boerewors, which is a yummy, meaty, sausage of sorts (see this pic), traditionally made by Afrikaans-speaking boers. A boerie roll is thus one of those sausages in a bun, and (to state the obvious) a gourmet boerie roll is a pimped-out boerie roll. :)
At the launch party our hosts served up boerie roll sliders - they were awesome. This time around I had a roll called "The Hangover" - it was magnificent. Besides for the great food and friendly service - what I though was great about Gourmet Boerie is that they have free wifi and openly display the password! The free wifi and the long benches make a great place to sit with your laptop for an extra-long lunch while eating boerie rolls and getting some work done. Beer, boerie, and wifi - what more could you ask for? ;)
Specials
Gourmet Boerie are running a mad winter special - which I believe lasts only until Saturday 31 August. The weekday special is a plate of 7 boerie roll sliders, with chips, a mini dessert platter and two beers for R110. On Saturday the special deal is any regular-sized boerie roll, with chips, and a beer for R55... and yeah, that's pretty much a bargain!
Red, yellow, blue, which one’s for you?
When I saw these fule tanks at a local Caltex fuel station I couldn't help but to think of this old Citi Golf advert. Memories, heh?
